The Riverside Suite was again the venue for this year's now-legendary Luton Someries President's Night - ever popular with club members, friends, families and other Rotarians.
As the guest-of-honour (or should that be 'target') for this year's shindig, I had very little idea of the menu chosen - let alone what a spectacular treat was in store for everyone!
The food was ok - the company fantastic - and the speeches (hopefully) not too long. Once the food was cleared away - the fun began...

When Patricia (Head of Wauluds School) was last in, she thanked us again for continuing to support the Literacy Project in the school. Even though it's just an hour - less for the kids - it makes a real difference to the kids' confidence and reading to be given attention from someone other than teachers and parents.
Confidence in reading opens so many doors to learning and education for the children that it is the most important skill someone can learn. That's why we set up the project - and that's why we're going to present the dictionaries to the kids this year.
The staff at Wauluds produced a leaflet about the best way you can help kids with their reading - no matter at what level they read.
Please download the Reading Together leaflet. Read it before your next Literacy Rota slot - if you need help with the long words, I can help.

Jill and Patricia have resurrected the Snippets, which they will be publishing once a month. In a ideal world, people would be producing regular articles for the website and snippets - and the editorial team will be able to select those best suited for the snippets each month.
However - we're realists, and we struggle each month to get people to provide us with a two paragraph summary of the council reports. So - if you do have anything for the snippets - be it amusing, enlightening, informative or even just interesting... please pass it to Jill, Patricia or myself.
The Archive of Snippets can be accessed on the website under the Documents menu.

Luton North are again organsing their 10K run, which this year is on the 14th September. If you know any runners, or running-clubs, please see the letter and poster below, and forward it on to them. I've notified the Flitwick Flyers who have added it to their club calendar, so hopefully that will provide some entrants.
The club have also set up a website at www.luton-north-stroke10k.co.uk for online subscriptions.

snow drove the public into The Centre : Mk on Easter Saturday, where they were
treated to a free day of fun
for all the family put on by the Rotary clubs of District 1260 plus representation
from District 1070, Rotaract and Inner Wheel. Visitors came from as far away as

There are lots of good reasons to go to the District Conference -
fortunately the need for lazing in the sun isn't a key one. It's just
as well - we wimped out of walking the 150 yards to the dinner on
Saturday night having watched a woman get blown over. I had spent so
long on my hair, I didn't want to get it ruined in the rain...
It
had been a few days of WILD weather. Those that drove down on Friday
morning got caught in the driving (pun intended) rain, which Lynn was
sure was the worst she had ever seen. I did make sure that she new
about windscreen wipers, and had worked out how to turn them on - so it
must indeed have been bad! Those that drove down in the afternoon were
still snarled up in the traffic chaos that the weather (or Lynn's
driving) left in it's wake. Sarah & I finally arrived at 5.30 -
having left before 1.00.
