The club was formed in 1992 and took its name from the medieval Someries Castle situated to the south of Luton.
Each July a new President is elected by the members, serving for one year and supported by their team of officers who take responsibility for the various functions of the club. Since its formation the club has run a wide variety of social events for its members amongst which include dances, quiz's, car rallies, theatre trips, overseas trips, weekend lunch or dinners, bar-b-que's and much more. Whilst some social activities are just for the members, their families are never forgotten and most of the social events are open for partners and children. The club has since its formation supported the conferences run by the local District staged either on the south coast or in the north. The club has raised on average £10,000 each year since forming. Some of the local charities, which have been helped by the club, are the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, the Pasque Hospice, the Christian Lewis Trust, Shopmobility, Challney Lifeguards, Women's Aid, Macmillan Cancer Relief and many more. Charities further away that have been helped included the Jubilee Sailing Trust who built a new sailing ship fitted out for the disabled to which Luton Someries presented the main steering wheel. The club has contributed, with the Rotary Club of Chatrapur in India, to the building of a well in an area without previous fresh water nearby. This area was stricken by a typhoon in 1999 and the club was able to send out further support. In 1999 a bond was formed with the Rotary Club of Iserlohn in Germany and members of both clubs have visited each other subsequently and in the near future a major joint service project is planned.
