Welcome to Luton Someries Rotary Club

someries.jpgThe Rotary Club of Luton Someries was formed in 1993 and takes its name from Someries Castle in Luton.

This website is for members of the public and other Rotarians to see what we do - and is also a working site for the club's members, so some areas are restricted. Our Committee News and News sections contain information on club activities.

Please come and join us for breakfast on a Friday morning. If possible, could you inform us before the event; then we can ensure there's enough food and a place for you to sit! Our Contact Us page has the relevant phone numbers or email addresses.

Hedge Planting Print E-mail
Written by Craig Fisher

On a cold and wet morning Luton Rotarians and Volunteers from the Conservation Trust assembled at the car park with our forks, spades etc, etc.

After trudging across ¼ mile of playing field, we inspected the whips (saplings) that we planted last November. It is encouraging to see that many were still in existence and surviving although the support stakes that had been put in place had all been ‘whipped’ by some locals, no doubt for their own gardens!!

We reached the area where we were to plant a new hedge of hawthorn with mixed blackthorn and whitethorn.

The ground was so much easier to dig then that in Hay Wood from the year before, that we were all done by 12 o’clock and able to make rapid progress back to Julia who was frozen by her car with the bacon rolls and doughnuts etc, etc.

Many thanks to all that helped. It was very good to see some of the new members out helping in a hands on way with the environmental projects.

We do intend in taking a project table at the House of Friendship at the District Conference to try and encourage other clubs to also take up the environmental challenge.
