The Rotary Club of Luton Someries were delighted to present The Paul Harris
Fellow Award to fellow Rotarian Mary Morris.
Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary
International - and this prestigious
Award was introduced in 1957.
Recipients of this award are those members
of society who have contributed to helping those less fortunate than themselves
by putting ‘Service above Self'.
Mary was a founder member of Luton Someries
Rotary Club which first met in 1992. She
has a dueal role, not only supporting Luton Someries but also Luton Chiltern where
husband Morgan Morris is a member and former President.
She is an excellent Ambassador for Rotary,
and was for some years Chairman of Community and Vocational at club level and
also a member of the District Community and vocational team. Mary was one of the initiators of the local
annual Stroke Awareness campaign, she also assisted in the organization of the
Women's Aid Conference, co-ordinated the Luton Clubs to act together in
supporting Shop Mobility in the Luton Arndale Centre, which resulted in the
purchase of a Rotary Scooter to add to the facilities, and she has also been
the clubs liaison for the Rotary Youth Leadership scheme run each year at the
Henlow Air-force base
Mary
was born in Bedford and has lived in Luton since 1956, she is
married with 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
Mary spent over 20 years with London Luton Airport, retiring as
Marketing Manager in 1993.
Also a singer in her spare time, she was a
former member of The Luton Girls Choir, she now sings with the Bedfordshire
Police choir and during her 40 years with them has helped the choir raise funds
for worthy causes.
After the presentation Mary said" I was
thrilled to receive the Paul Harris Fellow, I know how difficult it is to
attain this award - I will wear the medal with great pride"
