Twenty two volunteers
embarked upon a weekend of activities organised jointly by RAF Henlow and the
RYLA Team to develop and assess their skills in a myriad of testing settings.
The weekend involved
prolonged periods without sleep and with generated pressure, so as to test the
volunteers to the limit of their endurance. Then they were placed into
leadership roles and coached as to how best to take command of a body of personalities
to complete complex physical and mental tasks.
At the conclusion of the
course, a written assessment of the performance of each team member and a
certificate is provided. It is hoped
that the experience will prove useful to the volunteer and may go some way to
providing a bench mark for their further development.
Our club was responsible for
sponsoring two volunteers again this year at a cost of £90 per person and they
have confirmed their willingness to give a talk to our Club in August.
Club members will again be
requested to encourage (physically fit) volunteers between the ages of 18 and
28 years to take part in this weekend.
If you think you have a
suitable volunteer for 2010 please contact Mary Morris.
