Welcome to Luton Someries Rotary Club

someries.jpgThe Rotary Club of Luton Someries was formed in 1993 and takes its name from Someries Castle in Luton.

This website is for members of the public and other Rotarians to see what we do - and is also a working site for the club's members, so some areas are restricted. Our Committee News and News sections contain information on club activities.

Please come and join us for breakfast on a Friday morning. If possible, could you inform us before the event; then we can ensure there's enough food and a place for you to sit! Our Contact Us page has the relevant phone numbers or email addresses.

My First Rotary Quiz Print E-mail

quiz.gifFriday, 18 September was the night I first ventured into a Rotary Quiz Night at the Leaside Hotel. I gather these are a regular occurrence.

I hadn’t been there much before at all and wouldn’t have found my way to the appropriate room if it wasn’t for the din of those already gathered. The room was set out with tables for 6 and I joined, by prior arrangement, Bronwen and Janet. It was nice to have someone to meet there. They were sitting with our President David Worker and his wife and Sandra and her husband so someone suggested we call ourselves ‘All the President’s women, plus one’.

Lots of people came in and I was surprised to recognise many of them. It was lovely to see Janet Foxley whom, like myself, is newly widowed.

We hadn’t seen each other since our bereavements. The questions were read out by Jonathan Siegler. I think we won the first round but our luck changed as the evening progressed and I think we ended up third. As I was on the end of the table, I had the pleasure of marking another team’s papers and there was the usual arguing about the accuracy of answers as no-one wanted to lose a whole mark if they could get away with only losing half.

Food was served half way through the evening and raffle tickets sold.

I really enjoyed myself and look forward to the next one when hopefully my brain will be in slightly better working order. It was a shame not more of our members were there but I do know Quiz Nights aren’t for everyone but it is just fun whispering to team members whilst trying to hear what other teams are saying!

Thanks to Craig for organising the questions, Jonathan for reading them and the answers out, Ben for accosting people for the raffle and congratulations to the winners. The evening raised £320 and a good time was had by all.
